Love For Fabric

B and I started on the nursery a few months ago, but since all of our hospital drama it hasn't progressed as I originally planned.   We have a crib, dresser, side table, plush glider, organized closet, homemade goodies, and some other fun details.

I decided to sew the crib skirt, toss pillow, and quilt after inspiration from Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones.  After lots of research we ordered a Brothers sewing machine that I absolutely adore.  I immediately sat down and learned how to use it.  Being that I haven't sewn since a child at my grandmother's house, I was sure there would be failure lurking around the corner.  Surprisingly it was so easy, and fun!

B and I set out to a nifty little quilting store in Lake Forest in search of the perfect fabrics for Zoe's room.  Who would have ever thought that it would be so difficult and time consuming.  After an afternoon of digging and pairing we both found a great adoration for these fabrics.  Bright and cheerful, but not too bright.  Feminine but not frilly.  A bit chic and modern.

The green fabric is by Amy Butler and will be the main focus of the room.  From this I will sew the pillow front, crib skirt panels, curtains, and some other fun projects.

Fabrics

The toss pillow was the first of the projects and quite easy.  I am proud of my work! The green fabric is the front, and the pink dotted like fabric is the back.  It has a slit in the back panel to insert the pillow.

The second project was what seemed to be the daunting crib skirt.  Amy Butler is very "wordy" in her patterns, but I took each step slowly and had no problems at all.  I used the green fabric for the panels, and the pink dotted fabric for the long side inserts, and muslin for the decking.  The hardest part of this project is cutting the fabric straight and true to size. Two days later I was finished and pleased.  The skirt is on the crib and looks stunning!  Hopefully I can get someone to take pictures.

Crib Skirt Panels
Obviously I am not able to sew, unless I manage to set up my hospital room as a craft room.  The quilt and curtains will have to wait for a while.

The other projects I plan on making are fabric butterflies in frames utilizing the same crib fabrics.  I also plan on making "peace" and "love" fabric canvases.  I found these all on Amy Butler's website and just love them.  This will be a pretty way to pull the fabrics around to other parts of the room.
